About Speed Skate Nova Scotia
There are five active clubs in Nova Scotia: Halifax Regional SSC, Northside Blades Speed SSC (North Sydney), Speedy Kids Oval Program Society (HRM), Valley SSC, and Tri-County SSC (Yarmouth). Those who are interested in establishing a speed skating club in their area can e-mail Speed Skate Nova Scotia for information.
Speed Skate Nova Scotia is committed to excellence in behaviour, athletic performance, and attitude. We strive for excellence by:
- competing, coaching, and managing to the best of our ability in a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship
- treating our team mates, opponents, volunteers, and officials with dignity and respect

Skating on the Emera Oval
If you wish to skate on the Emera Oval during the designated speed skating times (see schedule), you must be wearing speed skates (any type, including Nordic blades) and you must be a member of a recognized speed skating association.
If you are not currently registered with an association, you can obtain a membership by joining a speed skating club. There are two clubs that skate regularly on the Emera Oval, the Halifax Regional Speed Skating Club, and the Speedy Kids Oval Program Society. Please consult their websites if you wish to join either of these clubs.
If you wish only to skate during these times and do not wish to participate in the coached programs of these clubs, you can obtain a membership directly from Speed Skate Nova Scotia. The registration form is available in the speed skating trailer at the oval.
