About The Northside Blades Speed Skating Club
- The Northside Blades Speed Skating Club skates out of the Sydney Mines & District Community Centre in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton.
- The Northside Blades Speed Skating club was founded in 1993 by Leo and Mary Ann Doyle.
Over the intervening years, many of our competitive skaters have had the honour of
representing Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games and the Canadian Age Class Short Track
Championships as members of the provincial team. One of our skaters has a
Canadian Championship medal to his credit.
- Whether you wish to skate competitively or for recreation, speed skating has something to
offer you. All are welcome!
- Due to our low numbers, there are strong prospects for skaters between the age of 14 and 19 (in 2010) to represent Nova Scotia at the Canada Games in 2011, if certain criteria are met.
Registration Details
We skate Tuesday nights and Thursday nights at 6:30 pm.
Fees: One Night/week - $200 & Two Nights/week - $375 (plus Fundraising).
For those that are eligible, there is a national program that helps disadvantaged kids overcome the barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport. KidSport™ Nova Scotia provides funding of up to $300/year/child for sport registration and/or equipment. Click the
